Statutory Responsibilities

All organisations working with children and families are responsible for ensuring that their staff and volunteers are confident and competent in carrying out their responsibilities for safeguarding children. Staff should have access to appropriate development opportunities to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to abuse and neglect. HSCP will hold agencies to account in their efforts to ensure that all staff and volunteers working with children and/or their parents/carers are trained in safeguarding to an appropriate level.

HSCP commissions and delivers multi-agency events to complement in-house training.

What Training Do I Need?

All organisations working with children and families are responsible for ensuring that staff receive appropriate safeguarding training relevant to their role and responsibilities.

To assist organisations in fulfilling this responsibility, HSCP has produced a set of training standards. These standards are outlined in the HSCP Learning and Development Policy.

HSCP cannot accredit, approve and/or recommend single agency safeguarding training. All organisations working with children and families should evaluate themselves against the training policy in terms of their roles and responsibilities and compliance with the training standards. This evaluation should inform the organisation’s training strategy.

Safeguarding courses by external providers are not required to be approved by HSCP, although it is good practice to ensure that any courses for Hampshire professionals are in line with HSCP policies and procedures.

Who can access training?

All professionals/practitioners working in any of the following organisations can access HSCP fully funded multi-agency events:

• Hampshire County Council (all departments)
• Hampshire Constabulary
• Hampshire, Southampton & IOW Clinical Commissioning Group
• Commissioned health providers
• Maintained, academy and independent primary, secondary and special schools
• Post-16 colleges
• Early years providers
• District/borough/city councils (including commissioned services)
• Hampshire Fire & Rescue
• National Probation Service
• NHS England
• Winchester Diocese
• Portsmouth Diocese
• CAFCASS

A number of free spaces are allocated to voluntary sector and sporting organisations

How can I book on HSCP training?

Courses are available to browse and book on the HSCP Events booking page. Each member of staff wishing to attend multi-agency safeguarding training must hold an account. New accounts can be set up on the registration section of the Events booking page.

It is important when setting up accounts that staff select the correct sector and organisation from the drop-down menu. If your organisation is not listed, please contact: hscpevents@hants.gov.uk.

Allocation of places and non-attendance

Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, although selection and prioritisation may be undertaken to ensure multi-agency representation.

If you are unable to attend a pre-booked course, please inform us with at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid incurring a non-attendance fee.  Email: hscpevents@hants.gov.uk.
