Dental neglect
Definition
Dental neglect is defined by the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry as: ‘The persistent failure to meet a child’s basic oral health needs, likely to result in serious impairment of a child’s oral, or general health, or development.”
Accessing dental care
Dentaid The Dental Charity work in partnership with Hampshire & Isle of Wight ICB to provide dental clinics across the county for patients who are residents in Hampshire and Isle of Wight and entitled to free NHS dental treatment and/or facing health inequalities that make it difficult to access treatment. This includes:
- New and expectant mothers
- Children
- People at risk of homelessness and social exclusion
- People on low incomes and benefits
