Introduction

Where has this come from?

Safeguarding partners agreed to compile a Learning from Reviews toolkit.  This is to highlight areas of multi-agency safeguarding practice that arise more frequently in reviews of serious safeguarding cases (local child safeguarding practice reviews).

Partners agreed it would be helpful to pull this learning together, to be easily accessible to colleagues across the multi-agency workforce. Each area of the toolkit focuses on a different area of safeguarding practice and contains resources and tools to support you in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Hampshire’s children.

Why is it important?

Some areas have been highlighted nationally by the national Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel in their annual report 2022/23 and this is reflected locally. The Panel identified these areas as “perennial practice challenges” in our work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Safeguarding partners consider there is a need for a different approach to supporting learning in these areas. The toolkit can be used flexibly to support individual learning, learning within and across teams and agencies. Safeguarding children can be complex and continuing to develop our knowledge, skills and confidence in these areas is essential.
